FOX 8 Back To School Supply Drive
NEW ORLEANS, LA (July, 6, 2023) —FOX 8 is teaming up with Xplore Federal Credit Union to collect school supplies to support underprivileged children residing in Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Tammany Parishes. Every year, parents/guardians struggle to purchase school supplies for their children. In 2022, the average American household spent $894 on back-to-school supplies. Purchasing supplies is often costly and can be close to $100 or more per child. As a result, some children may begin the school year without the essential tools needed for the semester. This often leaves teachers to reach into their own pockets to fill in the gap.
We want all children to start the school year on the right foot.
Saturday, August 5th, 2023, FOX 8 will be hosting a one-day event at three area Walmart locations (see below) to collect school supplies to donate to their respective school districts. Their goal is to fill one school bus per store! On the day of the drive, there will be excitement and fun in the air, as FOX 8 on-air personalities, bands & cheerleaders from each school district are on location to create awareness for this special event. Volunteers will collect supplies from shoppers as they leave the stores and load them onto the on-site school bus. All school supplies will be loaded on the bus during the event and will be given to the school districts the same day.

Metairie: 8912 Veterans Memorial Blvd.
Covington: 880 North HWY 190
This will be featured live on the FOX 8 weekend morning news, from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. During the event, FOX 8 will be taking several bumpers shots and live interviews from all three locations during the commercial breaks, and later that evening to showcase the big event during the 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. newscasts.
Xplore will be accepting school supplies Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at their three branch locations beginning July 6 through August 4th (5500 Veterans Mem. Blvd, 221 Veterans Mem Blvd, and 701 Poydras St). Supplies can be for any grade level Pre-K-12th.
